Discover the creative possibilities of Tetra Pak printmaking, an inventive and eco-conscious printmaking method that transforms recycled juice and milk cartons into beautifully detailed printing plates. This process originated among artists seeking affordable, sustainable alternatives to traditional printmaking materials — giving new life to everyday packaging.

Over the day, you’ll learn how to recycle and repurpose Tetra Pak cartons into your own printing plates. The foil-coated surface of the cartons allows for fine lines, rich tones, and subtle textures, similar to drypoint etching but without the need for metal plates or harsh chemicals. It’s a wonderfully accessible technique that proves printmaking can be both creative and environmentally friendly.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some printmaking experience who’d like to experiment with a fresh and sustainable approach.

During the day you will:

• Learn about the background and development of Tetra Pak printmaking

• Prepare, etch, and ink your own plate using upcycled materials

• Explore mark-making, colour layering, and hand-printing techniques

• Create a small series of original prints to take home

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have gained insight into this innovative printing process, produced your own collection of unique prints, and discovered how sustainability and creativity can go hand in hand.

Please bring:

• A few drawings, sketches, or photographs as inspiration for your print designs. We have plenty of pictures for inspiration as well.

• An apron or old clothes you don’t mind getting ink on

• A packed lunch or dinner money

• Your creativity!

• All tools, inks, paper, Tetra Pak materials, and refreshments will be provided.

• Concessions available upon request for students and people on a low income.
