About

A mono-type print is an entirely unique piece of artwork. This is a simple way to create a single or multi-coloured image. This workshop will explore Trace Mono-type and Subtractive Mono-type printing.

For a trace mono-type, the desired image is traced or drawn freehand onto the back of the paper, which is mounted onto a very thin layer of ink. Pressure from the tools picks up the ink from the base plate and tone is varied by using hard and soft pencils, pens or brushes. The resulting image has a soft graininess that is characteristic of this process.

The subtractive mono-type method involves removing ink from the base plate by drawing a design directly into the ink using card, fabric, paper, scrim or cotton buds. The ink design is printed using a press, or by hand with a baren or other rubbing tool, like a spoon or even your fingers.

  • Concessions available upon request for students and people on a low income.

Introduction to Printmaking Workshops 2024

Following a successful first year in our printmaking studio, Printshare are delighted to offer another series of printmaking workshops.

2024 offers four workshops in different printmaking techniques, taught by members of our collaborative group in a friendly relaxed environment. These workshops are suitable for beginners, or those wanting to try their hand at a new printmaking technique. You can choose to do a single or multiple workshops, or the whole course.

These workshops will support us to develop our studio space, and an exciting programme of more workshops and arts activities in Ulverston.
