About
Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9pm for five weeks:Â
7, 14, 21, 28 November & 5 December 2023
Mixed-media Printmaking combines two or more printmaking techniques to create interesting, multidimensional and unique prints.
Maybe you’re looking to experiment with different media and techniques.  Maybe you've attended a printmaking course before and want to learn new techniques or add a different dimension to your work. Maybe you feel a bit stuck and want to play and free-up your creativity.Â
Mixed-media printmaking brings together different intaglio and relief printmaking techniques:
- Intaglio printmaking is where the design is incised or engraved into the printing plate and the ink sits in the recessed areas.
- Relief printmaking is where the design is cut away or built up on the printing plate and the ink sits on the raised areas.Â
During this hands-on course, you will:
- Learn the fundamentals of silkscreen, monoprinting, linocut, collagraph and Chine collé
- Experiment with coloured papers, textural materials and stencils
- Explore combining printmaking techniques
- Learn how soft pastels, oils pastels, charcoal and watercolours can be used in printmaking
- Experiment with different inking and printing techniques
Each week we'll explore different printmaking techniques, working towards combining these in a way that works for you.Â
Why not bring old plates and prints, paintings and drawings, images and photocopies as a starting point? Â They can be repurposed, cut up, transferred, overlayed or incorporated as collaged elements and included in a fresh series of prints.
The co-facilitators, Marett and Vicky are artist printmakers who enjoy encouraging creativity in others. They can help you think through and plan your prints to find the combination of techniques that suits your print/ design/ idea and the steps required to create interesting and unique mixed-media prints to take home and enjoy - they'll make lovely presents too!!Â
Please bring:
- a selection of images (e.g. photographs, drawings, paintings, photocopies) that you would like to use as a starting point
- old prints or plates (if you have any) that you might like to revisit or use again
- an apron
- a pair of Marigolds
- your creativity!Â
All materials are included and refreshments provided.
