About
Linocut is a type of relief printmaking, where the ink stays on the surface and the areas that are carved away will remain white. It is a negative mark-making technique meaning that you are removing material rather than adding it, so what you leave behind typically forms the image. Saying that makes it sound ever so complicated, but it isn’t - once you get started!
Your desired image can be transferred on to the lino either by drawing directly or by tracing, and then lino cutting tools carve away the top layer of the lino leaving behind the image that you wish to print in relief. The lino is inked up using a roller and then the paper is added on top, and the print is created either by applying pressure by hand or by putting it through the printing press.
During the workshop you will develop your design, cut the lino and then enjoy creating a variety of prints, experimenting with different colours, textures and papers.
